1. Melt the butter with vegetable oil in a saucepan and stir in the flour.
2. Add the milk and stir well. Bring mixture to a boil while stirring.
3. Add salt to taste and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes. (If you do not want a very thick sauce, add the milk. If thick, then simmer longer until desired consistency)
4. Add the nutmeg and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Boil the potatoes in their skins until tender.
